Retired Master Sergeant Todd Smalenberg
Christian Republican

Patriotic Veteran
“As your state representative I will focus on what brings us together and how we can make Northeast Michigan a better place. We cannot waste time with issues that will divide our communities and leave our beautiful piece of Michigan at risk.
As a veteran I believe there is no substitute for victory. In battle it does not matter what side of the aisle someone is on; we are all focused on one object: defending this great nation.
My plan will be grounded in our Northeast Michigan way of life and our principles we have always relied on. I hope you will join me and my family in electing me as your state representative for the 106th house district.” -Retired Master Sergeant Todd Smalenberg

Todd Smalenberg’s Policy
Election Integrity
As a veteran I fought for every American to have the right to vote. Without our right to vote, our republic falls. This is why I support real common-sense solutions that will help our elections become safer, easier to access, and more transparent. I support:
Voter Identification
More local control over election processes
More community input into how to make our election process better
Clean voter rolls
Access to safe, legal polling locations
Transparent election systems that can withstand any audit
Protection of Life
No matter what position I am in, I will always protect the rights of both the born and unborn. Although I disagree with proposition 3, it is now embedded in our state constitution. This is why we now must use other resources to help woman and ensure that when they walk into an abortion clinic, they feel they have a choice to choose life. I support:
Ending taxpayer-funded abortion
Supporting victims of rape and incest
Educating people on the better option of choosing life
Enacting standards for abortion providers
Veterans
I am the only candidate running for the 106th district that has served our great nation in the military. I cannot stress enough how much I love our country and that you as an American are worth every moment I spent abroad. I am now entering a new battlefield, the battlefield for our great state. I will always stand for our veterans, and I will be fighting for veterans and their needs in Lansing. I support:
Funding community veterans’ officers and programs
Educating our youth on the sacrifices our men and woman in uniform make everyday
Standing against any effort that will jeopardize our state and national security
Protecting our veteran’s way of life
Pro-Second Amendment
Having served abroad, I have seen firsthand how citizens without guns are left defenseless and without a say in how their government is run. The founders knew what they were doing when they recognized our God-given right to defend ourselves. I will always defend our second amendment and will do everything as your state representative to let Lansing know we will NEVER give up our guns. I support:
Constitutional carry
Education classes to ensure our youth respect our sacred right
Ending bureaucratic infringement on the Second Amendment
Any policy that further protects our right to defend ourselves, our families, and our property
Smaller government, More Freedom
Our individual liberties and freedoms are being trampled on by people who are too afraid to talk with us face to face. Government must protect the rights of Americans from both foreign and domestic enemies. Period. We do not need government and slimy politicians telling us how we can and can’t live our lives. I support:
Ending government overreach
Protecting retirees hard earned money from greedy, out of touch politicians
Defending property rights
Allowing local communities more say
Ending intrusive mandates on individual’s liberties
Protecting our natural resources and way of life
God gave us a beautiful planet and we must strive to protect it. We can have both economic prosperity and a clean environment to leave for our kids and grandkids. This means supporting real common sense ideas like the Great Lakes Tunnel Project and protecting jobs that help hard working Americans feed their families. We also need to make sure our water is clean, our parks have enough funding, and our farms and wildlife are abundant and prospering for generations to come. I support:
Maintaining clean water and PFAS prevention
Preventing pollution in our Great Lakes
Building the Great Lakes Tunnel
Funding our parks
Supporting farmers and all workers in agriculture
Defending our energy jobs
Education
Good education is what makes us competitive against other nations. Quality education is the cornerstone of our 21st century economy. This means having parents back with whatever decision the parent wants for their kids, whether it be public school, homeschool, or private school. We also need to ensure that teachers have the resources to produce a safe and efficient learning environment without wondering whether or not they can afford classroom supplies. Teachers, parents, and children need to work together in synergy to produce the best result for our community and economy. I support:
School Choice
Parental Rights
Funding for schools and classroom resources
Core components of education
Local control over curriculum
Secure schools
Lower tuition costs
Law Enforcement
As a former member of the military, I understand the importance of keeping law and order. We need law enforcement that is from the community and backed by the community. I support law enforcement and will be their ally in Lansing. This means working with local sheriffs and members of the justice system when drafting legislation to ensure that those who commit crimes are held accountable for their actions. I support:
More funding for law enforcement
Sheriffs’ authority to make the right decisions in their community
Judges and prosecutors who respect the rule of law
Additional efforts to make our justice system a smoother process for citizens
Infrastructure and Housing
Northeast Michigan needs more housing and better internet if we hope to continue our growth. We need to work with local municipalities to establish ways to draw in more housing for our growing towns and villages. This means getting rid of burdensome regulations and incentivizing our communities to allow growth and prosperty. This also means repairing our roads and updating our water systems, so we don’t have to worry about lead and potholes. I support:
Funding our roads, water, and sewer systems
Incentivizing broadband and better technology
Protecting an individual's right to their property
Deregulating laws that are nonsense and out of date
Working with communities to improve the quality of life in Northeast Michigan
